ROCKFORD, Ailing. (WIFR) – George Church, James Warring and Ron Janecek joined the navy as youngsters throughout World Battle II. Whereas the Rockford and Cherry Valley natives served on the similar time, they didn’t meet till a long time later.
All from totally different backgrounds, their shared experiences turned their connective tissue.

Each day the three veterans sit at a desk at Bickford Senior Dwelling in Rockford, buying and selling battle tales. Janecek is without doubt one of the few survivors of the plane provider USS Franklin, which got here below Japanese air assault in march 1945. Greater than 800 crew members died.
“God was with me that day, that’s for certain,” Janecek says.
A long time later, these veterans stay touched by those that thank them for his or her service and supply gratitude for many who return the favor.
